It is a true whole body workout. It works on every muscle of the body. There are many different types of strokes used in swimming but whichever stroke you use; involves almost all the muscles from head to toe. Thus swimming helps you tone all of your muscles.

It is a very efficient way of burning calories. A person can burn up to 400 calories swimming for an hour on a moderate pace. Pace is directly proportional to the number of calories burnt; more the pace more the calories are burnt.

Swimming is more effective in weight loss than walking or yoga.

Safer in Pregnancy

Pregnancy is stressful and during pregnancy it is very hard to work out. Even walking seems to be a tough thing to do. Many of the exercises are not even safe during pregnancy unlike swimming.

In fact, swimming decreases the risk of preterm labor and congenital diseases. It also reduces stress around the spine and surrounding muscles, which are quite painful for expectant moms, hence pregnant women usually enjoy their time being in the water.

It also helps them to maintain their weight. As swimming is easy on the ligaments and joints, it is considered to be one of the best workouts while being pregnant.

If swimming in the first trimester, it helps to reduce nausea almost vanishes it. In the second and third trimester breaststroke is the best way to do it. It will help you lie on your back without disturbing the blood flow. Swimming also helps the lungs making it easier to breathe, strengthens the heart making it more efficient in pumping blood.

But there are some precautions that you need to follow. A few of them are listed below

  • Swimming Environment is safe
  • Life guard is present
  • Your gynecologist approves of it
  • Always use anti-slip slippers
  • Make sure you don’t have uterine contractions
  • Avoid Swimming if there is any history of heart disease
  • Make Sure you are hydrated enough
  • Do not jump or dive, it can harm the baby

Many benefits can be gained by swimming while being pregnant. With the appropriate precautions, a relaxing swim in a suitable environment can help soothe the nerves in a fun way.

Water gives a feeling of weightlessness despite the extra ponds of pregnancy hence making moms-to-be feel comfortable. Another benefit of swimming during pregnancy is that immersing in the water helps to alleviate swelling on arms and legs.  

Gentle swimming sessions throughout pregnancy helps tone leg muscles, pelvis and buttocks which are essential during labor.

Swimming with Kids

Women generally have to be around kids and kids love the water. It is perfect way to bond, have fun and exercise at the same time. Kids have a lot of energy and need around 60 minutes of aerobic exercise. Swimming is an enjoyable activity and does not feel like formal work out.

When your body is submerged in water it has less oxygen but it adapts to such a level of oxygen and learns how to use it much more effectively. Your body will eventually learn to take in more fresh air with every breath and exhale more carbon dioxide.

Swimming not only makes women physically active and attractive it also helps make them mentally stronger and smarter. They are able to perform better at all of their chores and still feel relaxed and not much tired.
